Some traits from the history of Old Russian exegesis

We have hardly any original exegetical works from Old Rus’, since those we seem to have (e. g. The exposition of the Lord's prayer) may be translations or adaptations of a Greek pattern. However, the great East Slavic chronographic compilations and the Explanatory Palaea are indigenous beyond all doubt. They contain some specimens of the native exegesis. The Adversus ioudeos topic is exploited there in various and distinctive forms. Alliterative rhymes representing the explanatory alphabet may be treated as another exegetical genre. One has to compare these forms to the classical Ancient Jewish theology as offered by the Deuteronomistic History and the acrostic Psalms to find much in common.
