The paper based on folk legends and oral evidences from the 19th century till nowadays concentrates on such aspects of folk-religion, as the problem of choice and change of faith, the evaluation of the "own" and "foreign" religion (reflected as in terms and phraseology, so in the motifs of the folk stories), the practice of using the "alien" sacral artifacts images and signs in crisis situations, the possibility of attracting the gentiles to the religious rites. The texts from the regions of ethnic-cultural contacts and cultural and confessional borderlands, i.e. from those areas of the Slavic world, where coexisted and coexist various religious traditions (Orthodox, Greek Catholic, Roman Catholic, Jewish) are of greatest interest to us. The paper presents the field research data recorded in Galicia, Bukovina, Bessarabia, in Western Belarus in 2009-2013.
